Volunteer Program Information:
The Crime Victim Assistance Center began as a volunteer organization, and this committed group remains the backbone of the agency. It would be impossible to provide the services we do without their continued support. Currently we have two types of volunteers: Direct Service Advocates and Special Events Volunteers.
Direct Service Advocates provide after hour services to our clients through the on-call calendar. Each month, these volunteers pick the days he/she would like to be on-call. All Direct Service Advocates successfully complete the following: Application Screening, Criminal Background Check, 30 hour Advocate Training Course, 10 hours of hands-on experience working with survivors, and the Advocate Training Exam. Upon completion of the above, the volunteer will serve as Back-Up to a more experienced Primary Advocate Volunteer or Staff Member for at least three months.
Special Events Volunteers represent the agency at community functions and/or special events (Kid's Day, Donkey Basketball, fundraisers, etc). These volunteers DO NOT work with CVAC clients, but are generally informed of the dynamics of sexual assault and domestic violence, and CVAC services, policies, and mission. Special Events Volunteers must successfully complete the: Application Screening, Criminal Background Check, and 8 hour training course.
Volunteer Trainings begin periodically throughout the year. All interested individuals, who are at least 18 years of age, can download and return to the Volunteer Coordinator a copy of the Direct Service Advocate Volunteer Packet or the Special Events Volunteer Packet.
Individuals under the age of 18 who would like to volunteer should e-mail Community Educator or call 254-629-3223.
